Magic Powers

Effects for fantasy and superhero scenes: portals and magic circles, energy balls charging in a hand, spell beams, super lightning, laser eyes and force fields.

Category information

ProRes (.MOV): alpha channel, so the effect keeps its full color and brightness on any footage, including bright daylight.
MP4: compact files on a background. On black, Screen or Add is all you need.

Category help

Track the effect to the actor's hand or eyes, so it moves with them. The trackers in After Effects and DaVinci Resolve both handle this.
Add a soft glow with Easy Glow or your editor's glow effect.
Light the actor: tint their hand and face in the power's color while the effect is active, and let it flicker with the effect.
Give it a beginning and an end: a short charge-up before the power fires, and a reaction on whatever it hits.
Finish with a whoosh or impact from our magic sound effects.
