Animals/Creatures

Wildlife and Creature Elements

Wildlife and creatures to bring a shot to life: birds, including seagulls seen from drone angles (front, rear, side and top), fish, butterflies and bees, plus a tentacle monster for creature features.

Category information

Picking a download for wings and fins

ProRes (.MOV): keeps fins, antennae and the soft smear of a beating wing, details a key would cut away.
MP4: carries a background. On green, a chroma key is fine for birds in slow, steady flight; use ProRes for fast wings and tiny insects.

How to add animals to footage

Choose the view that matches your camera: a top-down drone shot needs birds seen from above, an eye-level shot the side or front. In sunny top-down shots, give birds flying low a soft shadow on the sand or water below.
Build a flock from several clips at different sizes and start times. Smaller, slower birds read as farther away.
Give butterflies and bees a reason to be there by routing them past flowers, plants or an actor's hand.
Mask the tentacle monster's base behind water, ground or rubble so it rises out of the scene, and add wingbeats or buzzing from animal sound effects.
