Fire + Sparks

Fire and Spark Effects for Video

Flames and sparks for any scene that needs heat: burning elements for set fires and burning surfaces, fire bursts for sudden flare-ups, embers that fly at the lens, and spark bursts off walls and floors. Daytime fire clips are included for shots in bright light.

Category information

Which format should I download?

ProRes (.MOV): alpha channel, so the flames keep their full density over bright skies, walls and daylight scenes.
MP4: lighter downloads with a background. On black, use Screen or Add; in After Effects, the free Unmult plugin removes the black instead.

How to add fire to a shot

Place the fire where it's burning from, and mask it behind anything in front of it.
Light the scene: add a warm, flickering glow to nearby walls, floors and faces with a soft-masked brightness and color adjustment.
Let that glow flicker with the flames rather than holding steady; steady light is what gives a fake fire away.
Add rising smoke above large fires, and a few embers or sparks to finish the shot.
