Texture Overlays and Video Filters

Full-frame overlays that change the look of a whole shot: camcorder recording screens, light leaks and flares, old film damage, glitches, ink, paint and fluid color textures for music videos, vlogs and retro edits.

Category information

Which blend mode should I use?

Screen: light leaks, flares and anything bright on black.
Overlay or Soft Light: grain, scratches, dust and paper or paint textures.
Normal: camcorder screens and other on-screen graphics, using the ProRes version with alpha so only the graphics show over your footage.

Category help

How to apply an overlay

Put the overlay on the top track and stretch it across every clip that should share the look.
Set the blend mode from the list above, then bring the opacity down to somewhere between 20% and 60%.
Use a light leak as a transition, too: a bright flare across the cut hides the edit.
For a retro look, stack an old-film texture with a grade, or try the Chromatic Aberration plugin for color fringing.
