Transitions

Transitions for Video Editors

Animated transitions that cover the cut between two clips: glitch, paint and ink, drippy and motion-graphic line wipes, mattes, and themed sports and holiday transitions for intros, montages and social videos.

Category information

Which format should I download?

ProRes (.MOV): alpha channel, so the transition drops straight over your clips with nothing to key.
MP4: a smaller download. Key out a green background, and switch to ProRes if the transition has soft or semi-transparent edges.

Category help

How to use a transition

Scrub the transition to the frame where it fills the screen, line that frame up with your cut, then trim the start and end to taste.
Pick a transition whose movement follows the action or camera move across the cut, so the edit feels motivated.
For matte transitions, use the clip as a track matte: Track Matte in After Effects, or the Track Matte Key effect in Premiere Pro.
Add a whoosh or hit on the cut. Sound is half of what makes a transition feel fast.
